The Walter Welsh Award
Named for the local civil rights activist who helped conceptualize the annual event, the Walter Welsh Award is presented to an individual who is dedicated to promoting racial harmony, tolerance and understanding in the community.

Recipients of the Walter Welsh Award are selected on the basis of their individual efforts, their active involvement in organizations and committees, and their demonstrated excellence in the following areas:
  • Promotion and improvement of human relations
  • Education of the community, by precept and example, in the promotion of racial tolerance
  • Improvement of cultural and ethnic understanding by using dialogue and other innovative activities
