Kristi Hyman
Kristi Hyman serves as the Chief of Staff of the North Carolina Department of Justice under the leadership of Attorney General Roy Cooper. As chief of staff, she manages the department's administration, including personnel management, budget development, public outreach and general operations. In her role as Chief of Staff, she works with Attorney General Roy Cooper to promote his agenda to fiht crime and protect North Carolina consumers. Prior to being appointed as Chief of Staff, Kristi served as Deputy Chief of Staff.
Before joining Attorney Roy Cooper's staff, Kristi worked under the leadership of then-Governor Jim Hunt. She served in several capacities in the Governor's office, however she is most proud of her position as the Executive Director of the North Carolina Initiative on Race. The Initiative on Race was an innovative approach to improving race relations across the state by bringing together business and community leaders.
Kristi is privileged to have worked with two of the finest public servants, Roy Cooper and Jim Hunt.
Community involvement is equally important to Kristi. She spent her first years out of law school working in the non-profit arena and has since dedicated a lot of time and resources to numerous civic and community boards. In 2008, Kristi was honored to be named Humanitarian of the Year by the Wendell-Wake National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
Kristi is a proud alumnus of North Carolina Central University where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. She continued her education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law where she received her Juris Doctorate. She grew up in Wilson, North Carolina. She attended Wilson County Schools and graduated from James B. Hunt Hich School. She lives in Raleigh.
